Canadian Club of Hamburg & Northern Germany (Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern)

The Canadian Club of Hamburg & Northern Germany is a group of Canadians, men and women, who live in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and meet on a regular basis. The purpose of the Canadian Club of Northern Germany is to offer Canadians a chance to meet with other Canadians, speak in their own language and share experiences. The Canadian Club of Northern Germany extends a warm welcome to all Canadian men and women who are looking to connect with others for that touch of home away from home.

Whether you are new to Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern or have been living in Germany for years, this group provides an opportunity to meet with other Canadians in an informal, relaxed setting.  Members of the Canadian Club of Northern Germany meet up a variety of ways: it may be a potluck at a member’s home, meal in a restaurant, a family gathering or any other idea a member may suggest or be willing to host.

Members of the Canadian Club of Hamburg & Northern Germany consist of men and women of all ages who have found themselves living in Germany for different reasons, for example, as singles working or studying, as families posted here for training or employment, or as spouses to German nationals. The length of time our members have lived in the Northern Germany ranges from as short as a few months to those who have been here for over 35 years.   Current members reside in the Ahrensburg, Bad Segeberg, Bargteheide, Elmshorn, Lünenburg, Hamburg, Henstedt-Ulzburg, Kiel, Norderstedt, Schwerin, Warin and/or surrounding areas.  We welcome all fellow Canadians who would like help adjusting to life here in Hamburg through contact with other Canadians.

Created in Feb 2010, the Canadian Club of Hamburg & Northern Germany evolved out the Canadian Women’s Club of Hamburg due to ever reducing numbers of Canadian women in the Hamburg area and the closure of the Canadian Consulate in Hamburg in 2008.

The Canadian Women’s Club of Hamburg was in existence for over 35 years.  The Canadian Women’s Club of Hamburg offered Canadian women an opportunity to meet with other Canadian women, speak in their own language and share experiences on a regular basis.  At the time when Hamburg was still home to a Canadian Consulate, activities ranged from potlucks at private homes to events organized by the Consulate.  Over the past 10 years, members came not only from Hamburg and surrounding areas, but also came from as far as Elmshorn, Kiel and Schwerin.   In recognition of the changing membership of the club, it was decided to open the group to All Canadians living in northern Germany, with emphasis on Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and western Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.  The purpose of the Canadian Club of Northern Germany remains identical to that of the Canadian Women’s Club of Hamburg with the exception of broadening its scope and members.
